I’ve decided I definately want a textile inspired tatto (yes im that much of a nerd) just need to decided exactly what and where to have it!!
These are so cool! I was thinking about getting a tattoo related to sewing, so it neat to see other ones!!
Saturday we picked 20 quarts of strawberries.
Fresh picked berries are so much better than store bought….for starters, they’re actually shaped like strawberries are supposed to be shaped. None of that strange strawberry tumour stuff like when you buy them at the store. They’re also juicier, more flavourful (with a slightly different flavour, even), and the texture is different. You don’t even get to chew them, they just melt in your mouth. The ones at the store have moisture removed from them so they’ll have a longer shelf life. Taste and texture really suffer because of this.
SO. I made:
- Strawberry freezer jam
- Strawberry jelly
- Strawberry cobbler
- Strawberry milkshakes
- Strawberry soup
- Cherry-berry jelly
And froze a bunch for future smoothies, milkshakes, and baking projects.
Going to pick strawberries in a strawberry patch tomorrow and then going to the Lebanese food festival.
FALAFEL HERE I COOOMMEE!
I have a lot of friends ask me for advice on make-up, but they sometimes ask for more affordable options that are still quality. So I did a whole look with nothing but drugstore make-up/drugstore priced make-up. I also wanted it be a more fun look, rather than just something blah and neutral. You can easily accomplish that with any drugstore brand. I wanted to do something that shows you can big something that POPS and not pay out the ass for it.
I will say I did use Urban Decay Primer Potion. There are drugstore shadow primers out there that will extend the life of your shadow, but I don’t know of any that also make the colour more vibrant. That said, I’ve been very curious about NYX shadow bases, but I haven’t gotten around to trying them yet. So other than the UDPP, I didn’t use anything that cost more than $13 (and that was the foundation, everything else was under $10).
Foundation: L’Oreal Magic Smooth Souffle, $13. I’m a sucker for mousse foundations and bought this when it came out. It’s a nice everyday foundation. Light and comfortable feeling, but doesn’t fix all discoloration problems. With a concealer it would probably be fine, but I don’t have a drugstore concealer on hand and haven’t ever since the Maybelline Dream Mousse concealer was discontinued (that stuff was so awesome). My main problem with it was that it settled in pores. Not even higher end primers from Tarte or Smashbox could fix this. The only primer that did was…
Primer: Loreal Magic Perfection Base, $10. This stuff has actually been my favourite primer I’ve ever used, which is saying alot considering I’m a primer packrat. It keeps oil at bay better than anything I’ve ever used, fills in pores the best, and even fills in little scars.
Powder: Covergirl Oil Control Pressed Powder, $5. Just your basic powder, nothing really special about it.
Blush & Bronzer: e.l.f. Contouring Blush & Bronzer, $3. Subtle colours with a slight shimmer, nothing crazy. I’ve been using this a lot lately for blush and contouring when I’m in the mood for something that isn’t matte.
Highlighter: Covergirl cheekers in Snow Plum, $4. This is actually the best highlighter powder I’ve found for my skintone, high end or low end.
Shadows: Wet n Wild in Panther, $2. An awesome matte black. NYX in Mellow Yellow, $4. For a highlighter shade I used the light colour in the Wet n Wild I Drean of Greenie pallette ($4).
Eyeliner: I used e.l.f. Eye Primer & Liner Sealer, $3. The primer end is a crappy stick, ignore that. The sealer end is a cool little product, though. It’s a clear felt tip doo-dad that you run across any shadow you wish to use as a primer, and then you can apply it just like a liquid primer and makes it waterproof and smudge proof. It doesn’t goof up the shadow in your pan, either. This stuff is awesome! I used the Wet n Wild Panther as my eyeliner.
Mascara: L’Oreal Voluminous False Lashes (waterproof) in their blackest black shade. The price in this seems to differ wildly depending on where you buy it. I got it for $7.99 I think. There is a new black laquer version of this out that gives a shiny black finish and I want it! This mascara is pretty boss, just have to be careful with it. Too many coats and the fibers will make your lashes look like hairy spider legs.
Brows: Some Physician’s Formula brown eyeliner pencil from their Organicwear line that I got on clearance for like, a dollar, and to seal my brows I used a brow wax pencil I got at Sally Beauty Supply (can’t remember how much it was, but it was cheap). Yeah, I know my brows are dark, they’re naturally like that even though my natural hair colour is auburn and none of my bodyhair is dark. It’s weird. I usually use an auburn brow pencil to give them a little hint of red, but up until now no drugstore brow pencil came in auburn…however, Maybelline makes one now and I’m dying to try it! So far Anastasia has been the only brand I know of that makes an auburn brow pencil.
Lipbalm: eos lip balm, $4. I always put balm on under my liner/lipstick. eos was my favourite balm, until I got Fresh sugar lip treatment, but that got replaced by Maybelline Baby Lips (exact dupe, and much better at $3 than $23 for the Fresh brand!)
Lipliner: Rimmel Exaggerate lipliner in natural, I think it’s about $4. I like Rimmel liners because they’re mechanical, not wooden.
Lipstick: Rimmel Moisture Renew in Coral Shimmer, again, I think it’s $4 or $5.
Setting Spray: Aquanet. Straight up, plain old Aquanet hairspray is the BEST thing I’ve ever used to set make-up. I’ve used it for oh…10 years? It beats the pants off expensive setting sprays I’ve used. A lot of people tout Model in a Bottle as the best make-up setting spray out there…guess what? That and Aquanet have like, almost the same ingredients, and Aquanet is actually paraben-free! Your foundation won’t melt off, you won’t have eyeshadow fallout, you will have nothing coming off!
